1984 was much freakier than Orwell could ever have imagined. A third rate actor was the most powerful man on earth. A new "plague" was ending a generation of free sex. Funk and new forms of rock music fueled the dance floors. MTV actually had music in its programing. Vinyl records were the norm, CDs were a very costly extravagance. The world economy had been flat for years. Gasoline went over $1.00 per gallon in the US for the first time...but we didn't give a shit!!! We were havin' fun, all day, all night, any way we could!!! Really, it was quite a rush!!!
